Symposium

Sehlke Consulting’s very own Board of Advisor, The Honorable Katharina McFarland, Former Assistant Secretary of Defense (Acquisition) and President of Blue Oryx LL, will be a panelist at the 2018 Naval Postgraduate School Acquisition Research Symposium. The symposium will be taking place from May 9 to May 10 in Monterey, California. On the last day, Ms. McFarland will join forces with the following panelist: Honorable David Berteau, Honorable Frank Kendall, and Andrew Hunter to dissect and further address the current dialogue, which is surrounding Acquisition Reform. These individuals, as they were a part of the previous administration, were selected to provide a forum to represent and voice businesses’ concerns. They will address questions regarding what changes (positives and concerns) they foresee with this new reform and the impact it will have on acquisition services. They will tackle topics such as, change in legislative, change in procurement law, organization change, and how it is that authorities are played out for acquisition.

This symposium allows small businesses, such as Sehlke, to have a voice to the Defense leadership as they are a “small business that plays in a big world,” as stated by Ms. McFarland, “This symposium is greatly beneficial for small businesses like Sehlke who are a Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) company. Ms. McFarland will help lead the discussion to address the impact on professional services and the direct and personal impact it will have on small businesses.

Every year, NPS sponsors the Acquisition Research Symposium to provide students with the opportunity to display their research and have senior leaders in the field present their topics. By having senior leaders speak at this forum, students are provided the opportunity to have broader discussions led on the subject matter. This symposium will have Congress, industry officials, other universities, law schools, and many more join to collaborate and discuss at length the current dialogue of the Acquisition Reform.
